Yukky Subject

Yes, it was time for that dreaded colonoscopy.  The last time they called me in, the Doctor told me that they had made an error and I was not due for another two years, unless I insisted that I wanted it done at that time.  Well, I'm not THAT crazy, so I thanked him and left.

So when I went in this year, I hoped that they made another error as JJ and I both remember that it happened last year and not two years ago.  Lo and behold, time goes by fast when you're having fun.

The most difficult part of the procedure is the fasting.  Now I'm not what you would call a food addict, but when you can't eat anything, all you ever think about is food.  So I try and keep myself occupied while JJ is eating, watching TV on our massage chair, etc.  Did you ever notice how often people are eating on TV?  Then I notice the delicious fragrance of potato chips being chewed.  Luckily, that was quickly offset by the smell of a Tuna sandwich, which I hate.  After a while, I was so hungry that I was looking forward to drinking the "SOLUTION".

The first eight ounces wasn't too bad.  But after that, that sweet after taste was really bad.  I tried rinsing my mouth with cold Japanese Green Tea after drinking the big "S" and it really helped to rid my mouth of that terrible "finish".  Ahhh!

Now the good part.  I noticed that the fasting instructions did not specifically state that I couldn't drink beer, after all, it is a clear fluid and the instructions stated that only red and purple should be avoided and that alcoholic beverages should not be drunk AFTER the procedure.  So, with nothing to lose, I asked the nurse.  She told me that they don't recommend drinking beer as it dehydrates a person and they want to keep us hydrated.  Yet, we are allowed to drink coffee and tea!  How you figguh?

I had a happy evening.

Long story short, all is well.  For any of you who have never done the procedure, it is a far better experience than colon cancer.  DO IT.  If you have enough nerve to tell me that you will not do it, I will relentlessly remind you until you do.
